The Mound™ is SUJU MMA’s signature fight surface: a circular flat center surrounded by a gentle slope that rewards balance & center control while making ring-outs clear and decisive.

Platform Specifications & Dimensions

The Mound™ comes in two versions with similar geometry but different materials, build methods, and fight conditions:

 

  1. The Mound™ (Padded Vinyl Competition Style Mat) – a competition-grade, modular platform with a padded core and vinyl top covering. This is where we envision official competitions will be held.
  2. The Dirt Mound (Dirt League) – built outdoors with compacted earth. Its raw setting is perfect for grassroots testing, parks, and culture-building. We envision this evolving into it’s own league, mirroring the “natural ground” tradition seen in early sumo-style rings.


The Flat Mound Option: We understand that not everyone may have access to The Mound or won’t have the resources to build a Dirt Mound.

For this reason, we encourage everyone to test out the rules at your gym or home by taping off center-rings and outer-ring diameters on the mat.

Still want the dirt experience? Try drawing out the rings in an old unused baseball field. Stay Safe; SUJU responsibly.

The Mound SUJU MMA

Flat Center-Ring Peak

  • Center diameter: 4 meters. Testing 3m variation
  • Surface: level, continuous, and smooth (no tripping lip at the center boundary)
  • Starting marks: two opposing start lines, 70 cm apart (27.6 inches), for consistent resets and face-offs

Platform Outer Ring (Sloped Perimeter)

  • Outer perimeter diameter: 7 meters
  • Vertical rise (outer edge → center platform): 20 cm
  • Slope angle: 7.5° (we can reduce slope by reducing vertical angle or center diameter reduction)

Open Boundary (No Ropes / No Cage)

  • The Mound is intentionally open to drive all the action back to center
